Gensingen Brace

Gensingen Brace by Dr. Weiss (GBW)

Available through our Panelist: ScolioRehab, Ipoh

The Gensingen Brace (GBW), developed by Dr. Hans-Rudolf Weiss in Germany, represents an evolution of the Chêneau brace concept, integrating CAD/CAM-based customization with a standardized library of curve-pattern–specific brace models. This design framework allows for precise, reproducible fabrication and optimizes three-dimensional correction for scoliosis patients.

The GBW employs a 3D over-corrective approach:
Targeted pressure zones address curve convexities, while strategically placed expansion voids facilitate active correction and rotational derotation. This brace is particularly effective for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) in skeletally immature patients (Risser 0–2), with documented outcomes demonstrating high initial in-brace correction rates and sustained curve stabilization or improvement post-weaning.

Key Clinical Features:
• CAD/CAM Precision: Digital scanning and computer-aided modifications ensure accurate, reproducible brace design and rapid turnaround times.
• Standardized Curve-Specific Models: Brace configurations correspond to common curve types (per Lenke and Rigo classifications), supporting individualized yet evidence-based fabrication.
• 3D Correction: The brace corrects in all planes—coronal, sagittal, and transverse—supporting improved sagittal alignment and addressing vertebral rotation.
• Integration with Schroth Best Practice® Therapy: The GBW is designed to facilitate physiotherapeutic scoliosis-specific exercises (PSSE), maximizing corrective outcomes.
• Indications: Primarily AIS in patients with growth potential, but also applicable in selected adults for stabilization and pain management.

Clinical Evidence:
Recent retrospective and prospective studies demonstrate:
• High initial in-brace correction (often exceeding 50–70% of baseline Cobb angle).
• Low progression rates when applied per current SOSORT guidelines.
• Potential for structural improvements in apical vertebral wedging with early intervention.
At ScolioRehab, Ipoh, patients receive comprehensive scoliosis management, including radiographic assessment, brace fitting, and physiotherapeutic integration. The GBW provides a state-of-the-art non-operative intervention for scoliosis, offering clinicians a reproducible, evidence-based bracing solution that aligns with international standards of care.
